Voyage
The proceedings of Captain Sir John Franklin’s, RN, Arctic expedition after the ships were last seen in July 1845, while largely speculated, are mostly unknown. The few sources and information we do have are limited, including oral testemonies of the local Netsilik and artifacts like the Victory Point Note found in 1859.
Aftermath
The search effort for finding 129 men and two ships would be one of the largest in history of its kind, spanning almost two centuries. While the shipwrecks of HMS Erebus and Terror were rediscovered in 2014 and 2016 respectively, the endeavor to understand the sequence of events that lead to the downfall of the expedition continues to this day.
